Mr. Andrew Bowden

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many children have received the whooping cough vaccine since it was introduced by the National Health Service;

(2) how many children were recorded as completing primary courses of vaccination against whooping cough (a) between 1958 and 1982, (b) in 1983, (c) in 1984 and (d) in 1985.

Whooping cough vaccination was first recommended as part of the childhood immunisation programme in 1957, and central collection of statistics of the number of children vaccinated against whooping cough started in 1958. The available information is given in the table.
