HC Deb 25 March 1986 vol 94 c455W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if all visually handicapped children who are prescribed spectacles, including those with complex lenses, will get them free after the introduction of the Government's proposed voucher system; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if all visually handicapped children who are prescribed spectacles can get them free; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hayhoe

All visually handicapped and other children are at present entitled to free National Health Service spectacles either under the general ophthalmic services or the hospital eye service. Under the proposed voucher system they will receive vouchers to permit their spectacles to be obtained from the much wider choice available on the private market.
