Up to 25 February, the latest date for which information is available, 822 awards of a vaccine damage payment have been made. Payment was £10,000 on successful claims made before 18 June 1985 and £20,000 on claims made on or after that date.

Mr. Andrew Bowden

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what further payments he proposes making under the terms of the 'Vaccine Damage Payments Act 1979 to (a) whooping cough vaccine damaged children and (b) other victims of vaccine damage.

Mr. Whitney

We have no plans to make any further changes to the Vaccine Damage Payments Act 1979 following the doubling of the payment to £20,000 last year.
