HC Deb 25 March 1986 vol 94 c399W
Mr. Skinner

asked the Paymaster General (1) how many workers were made redundant in the retail food industry in 1983, 1984 and 1985;

(2) how many workers have been made redundant in the retail food industry in (a) the south-east, (b) the southwest, (c) the east midlands, (d) the west midlands, (e) the north-east and (I) the north-west in the last 12 months.

Mr. Lang

The information is not available. The confirmed redundancies statistics do not separately identify industry groups within the retail distribution sector.

Mr. Skinner

asked the Paymaster General how many workers are employed in the retail food industry at the latest available date.

Mr. Lang

In December 1985, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 634,000 employees in employment in the retail distribution of food in Great Britain.
