HC Deb 19 March 1986 vol 94 c192W
Mr. Adley

asked the Prime Minister if, prior to her proposed meeting with Mr. Chun Doo Hwan of South Korea, she will raise with the Government of that country the question of piracy in South Korea of books published by British publishers; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

The United Kingdom raised the issue of improved protection in Korea for its intellectual property at the Anglo-Korean bilateral economic policy consultations in Seoul last month. We were informed that the Koreans were preparing legislation on copyright to go to the National Assembly this year and that it was their intention to accede to one of the international copyright conventions in 1987. We shall continue to monitor the situation and the matter will be raised in the course of President Chun Doo Hwan's visit.
