HL Deb 31 July 1986 vol 479 c1090WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the telephone of Lord Jenkins of Putney has been tapped by the secret services and in particular whether any telephone conversations between Lord Jenkins and Mr. John Cox have been tapped.

Lord Glenarthur

It has been the invariable policy of successive governments never to confirm or deny that interception of communications has been authorised in particular cases. However, the assurances given by the then Leader of the House concerning telephone tapping in relation of Members of your Lordships' House continues to apply (Official Report, 22nd November 1966, col. 122).
