HL Deb 31 July 1986 vol 479 cc1090-1WA
Lord Hill-Norton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will print in the Official Report or place in the Library of the House a copy of the text of a letter sent in about January 1984 by the former Home Secretary (Rt. Hon. Leon Brittan, QC) to the Parliamentary Adviser to the Police Federation on the subject of shotgun controls; and whether they will state what changes in circumstances have occurred since that letter was written which justify major changes in policy in respect of the security of shotguns;

What action they now propose to take on the undertaking given by Lord Whitelaw in July 1982 to extend the life of a shotgun certificate from three to six years; and

How, in view of the details given in the Written Answer of 11th February 1986 (col. 1984), they have now arrived at an estimate of the "up to 10 per cent." of shotgun certificate holders who fail to notify changes of address.

Lord Glenarthur

I will write to the noble Lord.
