HC Deb 24 July 1986 vol 102 c399W
Mr. Meadowcroft

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to promote new forms of therapy for child abusers, as an alternative to prison sentences; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

Those who have been convicted of serious offences of child abuse are properly sentenced to imprisonment. Therapy may be made available but not as part of a sentence by the courts.
