HC Deb 21 July 1986 vol 102 cc65-6W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many inspectors of taxes are based in Wales; and how many of these are Welsh-speaking.

Mr. Norman Lamont

There are 319 inspectors of taxes based in Wales, of whom 25 are Welsh speaking. One hundred and one of these inspectors are spread among three large offices. Two of these offices deal with the affairs of taxpayers in the United Kingdom generally — civil servants and seamen, respectively, and the third is concerned solely with employees of non-Welsh employers.
