HC Deb 21 July 1986 vol 102 c65W
Mr. Hancock

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will express as a ratio of the average number of passengers passing through each of the English ferry ports to Europe the numbers of Customs and Excise officers at such ports.

Mr. Brooke

The numbers of preventive staff at ports and airports are based on management assessment of risk. For operational reasons it is not in the public interest to disclose staffing resources at individual ports. Provisional figures for the year ended 31 March 1986 indicate that nationally there were about 90 inward passengers daily to each preventive officer at seaports.
