HC Deb 21 July 1986 vol 102 c27W
Mr. Best

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received about compensation for sheep farmers on Anglesey following the ban on sheep sales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

I have received representations about compensation from the unions and other interests in the industry. The Government have already made it clear that they will be prepared to consider compensating specific farmers for severe loss in particular circumstances. However, at this stage it is too early to assess the effect of the restrictions upon producers.
