HC Deb 07 July 1986 vol 101 c69W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he is taking to encourage and assist on-site cancer smear testing in industry.

Mr. Hayhoe

Health authorities are responsible for ensuring that cervical screening facilities are available. Cervical smears are taken by general medical practitioners, health and family planning clinics and hospitals. Some health authorities and employers also arrange screening sessions at work places either directly or using the mobile clinics of the Womens National Cancer Control Campaign which receives a substantial grant from the Government. On-site screening can usefully complement the normal National Health Service screening services, provided it concentrates on attracting women who have not already been screened within the recommended interval.
