HC Deb 07 July 1986 vol 101 c69W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what the charges for home helps were in 1984, 1985 and at the present moment for (a) people on benefit and (b) people not on benefit; and what was the total number of people using the service in each category, and in each English county.

Mr. Whitney

Information in the form requested is not available. The latest information about local authorities in England who impose charges for their home help service is set out in columns 223 to 227 of the "Personal Social Services Statistics 1984–85" actuals published by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, a copy of which is in the Library. Details of the numbers of people who received home help in a sample week are shown in columns 213 to 220, but no information is available about the numbers of people charged and whether they were in receipt of supplementary benefit.
