§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithThe code of practice on disconnections ensures that disconnection is used only as a last resort; the options that are examined before disconnection is pursued are shown in this code. The British Gas Corporation and the electricity supply industry consider individually each case of theft from a meter. Where they are satisfied that the theft was the work of a third party, unconnected with the household, they may waive the obligation on the consumer to make good the losses.
