HC Deb 18 February 1986 vol 92 cc128-9W
Mr. Gow

asked the. Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the introduction in Northern Ireland of the recommendations contained in the Griffiths report.

Mr. Needham

The Griffiths report did not extend to Northern Ireland but, following local consultation, the Government have accepted that its recommendations about personal accountability and maximum delegation are as applicable to Northern Ireland as to the rest of the United Kingdom. A range of management initiatives has been drawn up by the Department of Health and Social Services, the most important of which has been the appointment of a general manager for each of the four health and social services boards from 1 April 1985. In addition, a supervisory board has been appointed to advise the responsible Minister.
