HC Deb 18 February 1986 vol 92 c129W
Mr. Gow

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what information he has as to the level of spending on health and social services in Northern Ireland as compared with that in England; and what methods are used to calculate such comparisons.

Mr. Needham

Expenditure per capita on the health and personal social services in Northern Ireland is about 25 per cent. higher than in England. The latest comparisons available, showing expenditure per capita of £422 in Northern Ireland compared with £336 in England, are drawn from expenditure data in the "Government's Expendiute Plans" (Cmnd. 9702), divided by mid-1984 population estimates.
