HC Deb 18 February 1986 vol 92 c97W
Q62. Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Prime Minister what steps she proposes to take to seek to increase public support for the Anglo-Irish agreement; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

I recognise that there are still misunderstandings within Northern Ireland about both the terms and operation of the Anglo-Irish agreement. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and I will, therefore, continue to explain why fears are unjustified and to draw attention to the advantages the agreement offers to all sections of the community in Northern Ireland. I am soon to meet the leaders of the two main Unionist parties, the Speaker of the Assembly, and representatives from the Church of Ireland. I also hope to meet the leaders of the SDLP and alliance parties.
