asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what information he has as to the current level of education spending per pupil in England, and as to how this compares with the per pupil spending of the Inner London education authority.

The net institutional expenditure per pupil in maintained primary and secondary schools in England in 1983–84, the latest year for which actual figures are available, was £875; the corresponding figure for the Inner London education authority was, at £1,475, 69 per cent. higher.
