HC Deb 04 February 1986 vol 91 c116W
Sir Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps he has taken to ensure that his list 99 provides an adequate listing of the criminal records of persons employed by his Department and other agencies for which he is responsible who by virtue of their work have substantial access to children.

Mr. Chris Patten

List 99 does not list criminal records but only basic details of persons barred by the Secretary of State for Education and Science from teaching and other work involving regular contact with children or young people. The continuation of the list in its present form was recommended in the first report of the joint review of the disclosure of criminal convictions of those with access to children, a copy of which is in the Library. The report describes how list 99 is maintained, including police reporting of relevant convictions of persons in the education sector.
