asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will give an assurance that none of the work they have undertaken to do for the United States Administration on the subject of "European Architecture" or "Battle Management" implies the assumption that the ABM Treaty may be breached or abrogated.

As my noble friend the Minister of State for Defence Procurement said in the debate on the noble Lord's Unstarred Question on 10th December, it remains our policy to contribute towards the maintenance of the ABM Treaty. The United States has repeatedly made clear its determination to conduct its research in accordance with the ABM Treaty. This was reaffirmed by the President at his meeting with my right honourable friend the Prime Minister on 15th November.
