§ Mr. Chris PattenThe responsibility for determining the level of provision for music education in maintained schools rests with the local education authorities and with the schools themselves. My right hon. Friend has made clear the Government's view that music should have a worthwhile place in the primary and secondary school curriculum, and that all pupils in our schools can derive fulfilment and enjoyment from the study and practice of music.
