Mr. Phillip Oppenheim

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his Department's annual budget for computerised data processing, including hardware, software and out of house services; and how many staff of his Department are employed in carrying out computerised data processing work.

Mr. Whitney

The Department's annual budget for 1985–86 for computerised data prosessing is £45 million for hardware and software and £3 million for out of house services. A total of 3,030 staff of the Department are employed in carrying out computerised data processing work.
