HC Deb 12 March 1985 vol 75 c115W
64. Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what increase there has been in the number of donor cards held by the public since the publicity campaign on organ transplantation launched in February 1984.

Mr. John Patten

During 1983 just under 2 million organ donor cards were issued by the Department's leaflets unit at Stanmore. During 1984 the number rose to 12.5 million, most of them issued after the launch of our campaign to increase public awareness of the benefits of transplantation and to promote the organ donor card scheme. It is impossible to estimate precisely how many of these cards have been signed and are now being carried by people willing to donate their organs.
