HC Deb 12 March 1985 vol 75 c115W
65. Mr. MacKenzie

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, before he completes his review of the present death grant, he will cause a survey to be made of cost of funerals in various parts of the United Kingdom; and if he will publish his findings in the Official Report.

Mr. Whitney

No. The cost of a funeral varies widely for several reasons including the wishes of those responsible for the funeral. I understand that the National Association of Funeral Directors puts the cost of an average funeral, without a headstone, at £350 to £650.
