HC Deb 05 March 1985 vol 74 c431W
Mr. Andrew MacKay

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many new homes have been provided for sale in London Docklands in each year since 1981; how many are expected to be built in each of the next five years; and how many houses are provided for in the land use plans of the London Docklands Development Corporation.

Sir George Young

The LDDC plans that a total of 10,025 houses for sale will have been started on LDDC owned sites between 1981 and the end of its current planning period in 1988–89. This total can be broken down as follows:

New starts Completions
1981–82 601 85
1982–83 1,098 348
1983–84 1,449 715
1984–85 1,500
1985–86 2,000
1986–87 2,000
1987–88 982
1988–89 425
Total 10,025

Figures for the later years could vary depending upon land availability. In addition, the LDDC estimates that there is the capacity for some 4,000 dwellings to be provided on privately owned sites in their area up to 1988–89. Over 900 have already been started or completed on these sites since 1981.
