HC Deb 20 June 1985 vol 81 c208W
25. Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the implementation and the future of the present milk quotas.

Mr. Jopling

I am pleased to say that virtually all producers in Great Britain have now been notified of their quotas for 1985–86. This includes restoration of 1983 levels for about 40 per cent. of all dairy farmers. Producers are therefore in a position to plan for the futue.

I very much hope that most of the difficulties inevitably associated with setting up the quota system are now behind us and producers can look forward to a more settled period ahead. There are no plans for continuation of the quota system after the five years originaly proposed for it.
