Mr. David Young

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many accidents causing fatalities on motorways have resulted in the last year to date at places where the lanes have been restricted due to repair work; what was the nature of the vehicles involved; and what police patrols were on duty prior to the accidents.

During 1984 in Great Britain, there were 19 fatal accidents on motorways (including A(M) Roads) where road works were present. The type and number of vehicles involved in these accidents were:
