HC Deb 18 April 1985 vol 77 c259W
Mr. Sayeed

asked the Prime Minister what assessment the Government have made of the effect on the outcome of the recent coal industry dispute of Government policies introduced since 1979.

The Prime Minister

I am glad that the dispute is over and that the coal industry is quickly returning to normal working. Since 1979 the Government have invested over £4 billion in the coal industry, and have provided £4 billion in grant support. Our approach to the industry's future has always been very positive. I hope that everyone in the industry will now join us in working to secure a healthy, efficient and prosperous industry able to take advantage of the opportunities available to coal.
