HC Deb 17 April 1985 vol 77 c167W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Prime Minister if Her Majesty's Government have made any representations to the United States Government about the proposed manufacture by the United States of binary nerve gas weapons; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

No. Like the United Kingdom, the United States remains committed to the achievement of a comprehensive worldwide and verifiable ban on chemical weapons in negotiations at Geneva. They are aware of our view that the Alliance should continue as its first priority to work urgently for such an agreement. Soviet agreement to such a ban and destruction of its massive chemical weapons offensive capability would obviate the need for the United States to pursue modernisation of its limited national capability.
