§ Mr. Willie W. Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland, in view of the shortage of trained psychiatric nurses in Scotland's psychiatric hospitals, what steps he intends to take to resolve the problem.
§ Mr. John MacKayBetween 1980 and 1983 the numbers of registered and enrolled psychiatric nurses in Scottish hospitals increased by 14 and 21 per cent. respectively.
Publicity material to encourage recruitment to psychiatric nurse training has been made widely available and in 1982 a pilot scheme was started to recruit mature males who did not have the normal entry qualifications. That scheme will be assessed after training of the 1982 intake is completed in 1985.
