asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many hospitals in Scotland have reported salmonella infections in the last 12 months; how many deaths have resulted; and what were the comparable figures of each of the last four years.

The information is not available in precisely the form requested. Outbreaks of salmonellosis may be foodborne or spread from person to person. So far in 1984 outbreaks have been reported by 3 hospitals involving a total of 28 persons (foodborne) and 6 persons (person to person infection). Figures for the calendar years 1980–1983 are:
