HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 c1058W
Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland on how many occasions the Forestry Commission has (a) refused applications for grant under the forestry grant scheme for new afforestation schemes in Sutherland, and what the reasons were for such refusals and (b) imposed conditions on grants made under the forestry grant scheme in Sutherland on the grounds that the forestry operations concerned would be damaging to nature conservation.

Mr. John MacKay

No application for grant-aid has been refused under the forestry grant scheme in Sutherland since the scheme's inception in October 1981. However, some 14 applications, two of which were in sites of special scientific interest, have been modified to take account of the requirements of nature conservation.
