HC Deb 30 October 1984 vol 65 c907W
21. Mr. Rowe

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is satisfied with the mechanisms in use in universities for assessing students at the end of their first year of university study.

Mr. Brooke

The assessment of students at the end of the first year of their course is a matter for universities themselves, but I understand that it is an aspect of their internal assessment mechanisms which the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals' study group under the chairmanship of Professor Philip Reynolds will be considering as part of the wider study of universities' internal mechanisms, and procedures for the maintenance of standards that will form the next stage of the group's work.
