HC Deb 25 October 1984 vol 65 c712W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what sums were paid out in each London borough in each financial year since 1978–79 in respect of grants made under the Inner Urban Areas Act; and how many jobs were preserved or created by such grants in each borough in each financial year.

Sir George Young

Returns supplied by London boroughs, the Greater London council, and the London Docklands Development Corporation on a calendar year basis for the United Kingdom's annual report to the European Community on the operation of the Inner Urban Areas Act 1978 indicate that expenditure under that Act in Greater London has been as follows:

£ million
1978–80 4–558
1981 1.689
1982 2.126
1983 *2.001

The same returns estimate the number of jobs saved or created during the year, which may or may not be attributable to the particular payments made during the year as follows:

£ million
1978–80 6,819
1981 4,000
1982 5,042
1983 *3,111
* One borough has not provided returns for 1983.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what sums have been approved in grant-aid to firms under the Inner Urban Areas Act in each financial year since the creation of the London Docklands Development Corporation; and what proportion of those sums was paid out.

Sir George Young

The information is as follows:
