HC Deb 29 November 1984 vol 68 c546W
Mr. Eastham

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to extend to prisons, prison hospitals and remand centres the powers of entry of environmental health officers and their subsequent powers of enforcement in relation to breaches of food hygiene regulations.

Mr. Mellor

No. The primary responsibility for supervising hygiene standards in prison department establishments rests with the medical officers based at each establishment who may call on the advice of environmental health officers as required. We see no need to alter these arrangements.
