HC Deb 27 November 1984 vol 68 c430W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what study has been, or will be, made by his Department of the implications for the demand for A-level, further education and higher education places of his statement to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Education Ministers in Paris regarding the objective of seeing 80 to 90 per cent. of all pupils reaching or surpassing at age 16 the standards now associated with the average.

Sir Keith Joseph

The projections set out in DES "Report on Education 100" take account of trends towards an increased proportion of young people obtaining the qualifications for entry to higher education. The Department will monitor closely the demand for post-16 education, including changes associated with the Government's policies to improve the standards achieved by pupils of compulsory school age.
