HC Deb 26 November 1984 vol 68 c404W
Mr. John Carlisle

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what amount of feed wheat and feed barley have been delivered to intervention; and what tonnages are contracted forward.

Mr. MacGregor

1.18 million tonnes of feed wheat and 0.63 million tonnes of barley were delivered into intervention stores in the period 1 August to 16 November 1984. A further 0.81 million tonnes of feed wheat and 0.09 million tonnes of barley were under offer to the Intervention Board on 16 November.

Mr. John Carlisle

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) whether he has received requests from the grain trade for export credit guarantees; and what his response has been;

(2) what requests he has received from the grain trade for financial assistance in the export of wheat and barley;

(3) whether he is satisfied that United Kingdom sellers of grain for export to third countries are not at a competitive disadvantage in their access to credit facilities, compared with their European counterparts.

Mr. MacGregor

We have received a number of representations from trade and farming organisations on this issue. We are considering what changes in existing export credit provision for cereals, if any, might be desirable or feasible, in consultation with the other Government Departments concerned and with the interested trade organisations.
