HC Deb 23 November 1984 vol 68 c331W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what information is available to him about the cessation of United Kingdom production of food mixers, domestic irons and typewriters and the consequent increase in the number of such products imported.

Mr. Butcher

Electric food mixers have ceased to be made in the United Kingdom by one firm and domestic electric irons by two firms in the last five years. These products are currently being made by other United Kingdom companies, but information about their production is not disclosed for commercial reasons. Typewriter production in the United Kingdom ceased several years ago. Import figures for irons and for food mixers and other food grinders and juice extractors are published in the "Business Monitor PQ3460 Domestic Electrical Appliances" and those for typewriters are available in "Business Monitor PQ 3301."
