§ Mr. Gareth Wardellasked the Secretary of State for Transport if, in view of the contribution of permanent roadside obstacles to road accidents, he will take steps to draw the attention of highway authorities to the potential of effective siting and design of street furniture.
§ Mrs. ChalkerMost street furniture contributes to overall road safety and, as the Department has already issued relevant advice to highway authorities, I cannot see any special reason at the present time to remind them again about their responsibilities. If the hon. Member has a particular situation in mind, perhaps he would write to me.
