HC Deb 19 November 1984 vol 68 c1W
15. Mr. Raffan

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what initiatives he plans to meet the problem of drug abuse in North Wales.

18. Sir Anthony Meyer

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what assistance he has offered to area authorities and other local authorities in Wales to combat drug abuse.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

As I told my hon. Friend the Member for Staffordshire, Moorlands (Mr. Knox) on 9 February 1984, my right hon. Friend has extended the purposes for which the Welsh Office central reserve for NHS psychiatric services may be used to include schemes to combat drug misuse. This is in addition to the record levels of resources we are already providing for the NHS in Wales. Authorities have also been reminded of the continued availability of joint finance for schemes to combat drug misuse which are provided by social services authorities, voluntary organisations and other service providers. Bids have been requested by 21 December this year and any assistance would begin from April 1985.
