HC Deb 14 November 1984 vol 67 cc249-50W
24. Mr. Speed

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the possibility of resuming talks with Argentina about the Falkland Islands.

Mr. Renton

As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister told the hon. Member for Linlithgow (Mr. Dalyell) on 31 October, we remain ready to work for more normal bilateral relations with Argentina. We are not prepared to discuss sovereignty, and hope that the Argentine Government will not continue to insist on linking discussion of normalisation with discussion of sovereignty in the way which caused deadlock at Berne in July.
