Mr. Arnold

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he expects to reach conclusions about the recommendations in the report of the Advisory Committee on the Supply and Education of Teachers on teacher training and special education needs.

Mr. Dunn

My right hon. Friends the Secretary of State and the Secretary of State for Wales are considering the recommendations of the report and will announce their decisions in due course.

Mr. Arnold

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science which organisations have been sent copies of the consultative document issued by his Department in October about the recent report on teacher training and special education needs.

I assume that my hon. Friend is referring to the consultative document "Special School Provision for Hearing Impaired Children" which my right hon. Friend issued in October. Views on the document have been invited from the following organisations:

  • Regional Conferences on Special Education
  • LEAs maintaining special schools for the hearing impaired
  • Non-maintained special schools for the hearing impaired
  • Independent schools for the hearing impaired
  • Association of County Councils
  • Associations of Metropolitan Authorities
  • Assistant Masters' and Mistresses' Association
  • National Association of Head Teachers
