Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what information his Department has from the 1981 census on age participation rates by social class for higher education in Scotland.

The information requested is not available from the 1981 census. However, the following figures from the 1983 Scottish School Leavers Survey show for each social class the percentage of school leavers from session 1981–82 who entered higher education in the following session:
