HC Deb 17 May 1984 vol 60 c219W
Mr. Gerald Howarth

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will examine why the road junction on the A4 Great West road at the intersection with North End road has been altered; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Chalker

This alteration, which reduces the number of lanes available for traffic travelling towards central London from three to two, was introduced by the GLC, despite contrary advice from GLC officers and the police who warned of an increased risk of accidents.

I have written to the GLC asking it to call off this experiment before tragic consequences are added to the congestion and environmental damage that have already been caused.
