HC Deb 16 May 1984 vol 60 c200W
Mr. Beggs

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent representations he has made to the Government of Iran concerning their treatment of members of the Baha'i faith; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Luce

The Iranian Government are well aware of our deep concern at the plight of the Baha'i community in Iran. We co-sponsored the resolution on human rights violations in Iran which was adopted by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights on 14 March. This resolution specifically mentioned the Baha'is. We shall continue our efforts, together with our partners in the Ten, to convince the Iranian Government of the need to observe internationally accepted standards.
