HC Deb 08 May 1984 vol 59 c377W
Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated number of married women under the age of 20 years who will receive the severe disablement allowance.

Mr. Newton

I refer the hon. Member to my reply to the right hon. Member for Manchester, Wythenshawe (Mr. Morris) on 19 March at column376. The difference between the broad estimates of the number of married women likely to qualify for severe disablement allowance each year and the number who would otherwise have qualified for housewives non-contributory invalidity pension primarily reflects the number who can be expected to satisfy the 80 per cent. test rather than those who qualify under age 20. It is not possible to give a more precise or detailed breakdown.
