asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will make a statement on the progress of his publicity campaign to improve the number of kidneys available for transplant.

Mr. Fowler

Since the campaign was launched in February 9 million new donor cards have been distributed, and 296 kidney transplant operations have been performed up to 30 April. This is an increase of 4 per cent. over the equivalent period last year. This progress is most encouraging, and I hope that the trend will be maintained.
