HC Deb 27 March 1984 vol 57 c141W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied with the working of the present liquor licensing laws in Scotland.

Mr. Younger

Surveys carried out in 1976–78 indicated that the provisions of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 1976 had been generally welcomed and were working well. However, I have decided that a further survey should be conducted to assess present public attitudes and I have asked the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys to carry this out. A separate survey will seek to discover the attitudes of licensees. These surveys will be carried out later this year with a view to submission of a report in 1985.
