HC Deb 26 March 1984 vol 57 c7W
Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what he estimates the effect will be of proposals for alterations to capital allowances on film production in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

It will be for the industry itself to determine what will be the effect of the Budget measures as a whole.

Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will meet representatives of the British film industry in the near future to discuss the effect of tax changes on future levels of film production.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

No plans for such a meeting exist. However, should a representative body wish to meet me to discuss the matter I would be willing to consider it.

Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what discussions he had with representatives of the British film industry with regard to tax changes prior to the Budget.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

During the course of my Department's review of film policy there have been many discussions with representatives from the industry about the effects of taxation on the industry.
