HC Deb 22 March 1984 vol 56 c579W
Mr. Sims

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the cost of increasing retirement pensions by £13.75 per week for a married couple and by £8.40 for a single person.

Dr. Boyson

It would cost about £3 billion in a full year if the increase were restricted to retirement pension alone; the cost would be about £5.5 billion in a full year if other long term benefits were also similarly increased.
